Indian police launch probe into BitConnect founder wanted by US SEC

The Indian police launched an investigation against BitConnect co-founder Satish Kumbhani months after the U.S. SEC said he relocated from India. The saga of BitConnect, a major cryptocurrency scam scheme, is taking another twist as one of the BitConnect co-founders is now wanted by the Indian state police. Satish Kumbhani, an Indian national and the alleged founder of the crypto Ponzi scheme BitConnect, reportedly became subject to a new Police investigation in India, The Indian Express reported on Wednesday. The Pune police, operating under the Indian state Maharashtra Police, launched a probe into Kumbhani after a Pune-based lawyer filed a complaint claiming that he lost about 220 Bitcoin (BTC), or $5.2 million, due to BitConnect. The complainant said his original investment was 54 BTC, with returns of 166 BTC, which he allegedly used to reinvest into platforms. Terra money website frozen to prevent more phishing scams

The freeze comes shortly after Terra website was compromised over the weekend by hackers who attempted to scam users via phishing attacks. Layer 1 blockchain Terra has temporarily shut down its website in order to protect users from ongoing phishing scams on the platform. “The terra(dot) money domains have successfully been frozen to prevent further user phishing scams , but a full resolution is still underway,” Terra officially announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Aug. 22. Terra advised all users to avoid engaging with any sites under the aforementioned domain until the foundation posts an official “all-clear” notice from this account. “Our team has been working around the clock to rectify this issue, but we've encountered delays with some third-party responses,” Terra added. Google Ads-delivered malware drains NFT influencer’s entire crypto wallet

A sponsored advertising link on Google hid malware that siphoned thousands of dollars worth of crypto and NFTs from an influencer’s wallet. An NFT influencer claims to have lost “a life-changing amount” of their net worth in nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and crypto after accidentally downloading malicious software found in a Google Ad search result. The pseudo-anonymous influencer known on Twitter as “NFT God” posted a series of tweets on Jan. 14 describing how his “entire digital livelihood” came under attack including a compromise of his crypto wallet and multiple online accounts.
